Hi.

Welcome to The Whimsical Wife. Thanks for popping in to share my adventures in the kitchen, in my home and my workshop as I Cook, Create & Decorate.

Feature Friday... Sweet Silver & Giveaway

My feature friday guest today is totally spoonalicious! Spoonalicious you ask? Yes well I made that word up really but you so have to visit Johanna's Madeit store... Sweet Silver. She makes the most adorable pressed spoons with the cutest words imprinted onto them. Without further ado I will let Johanna take it away!

My name is Johanna and I live with my husband and 10 month old son in Geelong, Victoria.
I love making old things new - recycling (or up cycling) if you will.
My husband and I love renovating houses.  We have so far completed 3 houses, but our current house is where our true design passion lies, a 1920’s Californian bungalow with all the style and space of a grand yesteryear.  We have just added a second storey and new kitchen entertainment area and have had a great deal of fun picking and choosing all those lovely old fittings and fixtures (doors, stain glass windows, awnings, lights etc) to tie it in to the original house.  The trick is to keep all the character of an old house but indulge in the things that make it homely and comfortable.  And of course we can’t wait to pick some new old furniture!

Sweet Silver grew out of my love for those items of elegance, value and class from eras gone by that were much treasured by our great/grandparents but nowadays tend to get overlooked.  A small vase here, an old wooden cabinet there, a jar of silver spoons by your kettle to be used every day.  (There’s no point in keeping the good stuff in a cupboard for a ‘special occasion’ if you can use it every day and get much more enjoyment out of it.)  I believe it’s often the little touches that make a home, and the little things that can put a smile on your face or make your ordinary day a little bit special.  Sometimes though, as is the case with a small silver spoon, they just need a little help getting noticed, and my stamped spoons (and other cutlery) do just that.

The spoon idea came to me when I was searching an op shop for soup spoons to flatten and stamp with plant names for my sisters garden (she is a mad keen veggie grower, and has all kinds of whacky edible plants).  (Stainless steel spoons make wonderful garden markers and I will be listing some on my MadeIt shop soon.)  Some silver spoons caught my eye, old and worn, but I saw the potential.  I’d been a big fan of MadeIt for a while – you can always find the perfect present for anyone, and it’s great if you need inspiration for that next project (not that I have time anymore with a 10 month old son who is very energetic).  I felt that my idea was perfect for that kind of selling forum, and was pleased when buyers requested individual sayings and names –  I find making unique items very rewarding, and as a buyer it’s nice to know you have a ‘one of a kind’.  I am happy to stamp anything on a spoon (including numbers e.g. dates), the most popular being names (a new baby, a much adored niece/nephew/grandchild, your beloved partner), you just have to ask and I can make a listing customised to your request.
