It's been awhile since I have shown a piece of furniture that I have done up. I think the last piece I showed you was the French Country Hutch that I painted. The spray booth has been a bit of a production line of late with a burst of painting happening over the past few weeks.

I've had a bunch of furniture sitting under our house waiting to be painted. I was stockpiling there a while back as I kept finding things at the OP shop that were calling my name. Hubby kept noticing the pile growing bigger and bigger. So I thought I better hop to it and get some movement happening in the camp.

I'm sure you all have some kind of unwanted side table or bedside table floating around your house that you're not sure what to do with. It might be old, flaky, scratched or written on with biro. It is still salvageable it just needs a little love and attention. Just like a woman needs! ha. You may not realise that you have a little gem under your nose, hiding in the dark corners of your house. Pull it out and show it some love!

I kept things simple with this little bedside table that I picked up on the cheap. I gave it a good sand to remove the glossy finish that it had on it. It's always important to give a good sand when painting a piece of furniture with a glossy or smooth finish on it otherwise the undercoat and top coat will just peel off. A good foundation is a must and it should start with a good sanding.

As with all good pieces of furniture a coat or two of a good stain blocker undercoat to continue the good foundation. This stops the wood stain from seeping through to your top coat leaving unsightly dark marks all over your newly painted piece of furniture. Not a good look. Even if you paint it another 3 or 4 times the dark marks will continue to seep through. Trust me I did this in the early stages of my furniture painting escapades. Do it right the first time! I painted it in a lovely clotted cream colour and left it at that. I could of roughed it up a bit with a bit of sanding here and there but I decided to leave it simple and let the accessories do the talking.

I just used decorative pieces that I had lying around the house to give the little beside table some character. The wire milk crate was picked up for $2 and I made the little fabric insert that sits inside of it . You can read about my decorating with $2 post here. I created a rustic vignette using a stack of old books, a large cream jug filled with dried lavendar from the garden (op shop find) and a smaller milk jug, layering it with the clock in the background to give it a bit of depth. A vignette is a little picture or a moment that you have created around your house using decorative objects.

I had fun playing around with this little table making it look pretty again. It didn't find a permanent home in our house though..... it found a new home within a few days of me finishing it. As I've said before - my house cannot fit another piece of furniture in it! Trust me I've tried. So with a little bit of effort and a touch of creativity you could have a cute little "moment' pop up in your house without spending a lot of money.

I really enjoy doing up these pieces of furniture as its my little bit of "me" time away from this cute little guy. I normally get a chunk of painting done when he is having his morning and afternoon naps. I am very blessed to have such a good sleeper otherwise I wouldn't be able to do it. I am not sure what I will do once his sleep times get shorter and he gets moving more. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. J.D is getting so much more active now that he can roll around with little effort. I often find him in the corner of the room banging away on random pieces of furniture. He is certainly keeping me on my toes. I can see a certain cheeky twinkle in his eye and know that when he gets older he will give me a run for my money! His latest is either sneezing, blowing raspberries or sticking his hand into his mouth FULL of food. I think I need to invest in a raincoat after getting sprayed a few times with pumpkin puree.
