Make Your Own Whopper At Home For $1.70/Serve

Guys, I made a homemade Whopper burger for you. Oh, the things I have to do to give you delicious food. Seriously though this was no trouble at all. I have a serious thing for Whopper burgers. I think I ate one nearly every month when I was pregnant with Little Miss A. It was hot chips and anything chilli related with number two and number one was just hot chips. There is something about the Whopper burger that just hits the spot for me. It's something to do with the combination of a smoky chargrilled patty, the tang of the tomato sauce, the crunchy lettuce, the bite of the onion and the creamy mayo oozing out the sides and let's not forget the gherkins/pickles. It has to have gherkins. You may not be a fan, but for me, it is what makes the burger. If I have chips on the side, I might even chuck a few in the burger as well. It's my guilty pleasure.

My Whopper burger obsession didn't do much for my waistline although it was expanded from being pregnant. I thought since I have such a taste for them I should try and figure out how to make them from home with real ingredients that won't blow the waistline. I also needed to learn how to rustle up one fast. Because you can never time a craving. Can you? I haven't got time to wait around for bread to rise and all that fuss as I am sure most busy families are in the same boat. However, you still can make delicious homemade burger buns fast. I'll show you how. The trick with these burger buns is that you don't need to let the dough rise and proove like normal dough. The secret is in the addition of the egg and oil giving the bun a lovely moist and fluffy crumb.

The best thing about making these at home is if you make a big batch of the buns and patties you have a super quick "takeaway" meal on a Friday night when you just don't feel like cooking. That is me down to the letter. I refuse to cook on a Friday night so we are normally raiding the freezer for leftovers to rustle up a meal. Sometimes three-month-old freezer offerings aren't the best but when you have these burgers ready in under 90 minutes it's high fives all around.

I also did a rough breakdown of costs on how much it is to make one of these burgers at home. Get ready for it. After factoring in the cost of making the bun, patty and the filling ingredients it came to about $1.70 a serve and that is to serve six people! Whaaaat. I couldn't believe it. I know you can pop down to your local burger joint and pick one up in less than 15 minutes but trust me you won't have that queasy feeling after eating one of my burgers and you know every single ingredient that goes into it.  I know which one I'd rather have.
