Hi.

Welcome to The Whimsical Wife. Thanks for popping in to share my adventures in the kitchen, in my home and my workshop as I Cook, Create & Decorate.

Feature Friday - Johnson Waters & Giveaway!

Hope that everyone has had a great week! I am hoping spring weather will return and winter will give up it's hold! I put all my winter clothes away when things got hot and had to pull them all out again. Frustrating....!

Anyway today we have a very special and talented designer who screen prints the most gorgeous items. His name is Michael and he operates the madeit.com store called Johnson Waters. I fell in love with his screen printed tea towels at his madeit store and knew I wanted to feature him here. So without further ado welcome Michael......

About me.
I am 45 years old... I started my own business late in life. But have always wanted to be my own boss.
Having studied graphic design earlier in life I decided not to go into that competitive arena immediately and worked in the airlines instead.
After some time I studied interior design and decided I wanted to make high quality products for homes rather than design interiors.
Being able to manufacture and make a product that is hand printed or framed by expert framers or sewn by hand and not made in another country gives me great satisfaction.
I bring experience in graphic design to all my designs and my experience with interiors assists in layout and colour and styling and beyond.
I was always creative as a child. Paint by numbers was a favourite. As was clay and sculpture in school. I loved to draw and my Nan taught me to sew, knit, crochet and darn... anything crafty or creative. So it was natural for me to go into a creative role in adult life.

I love to curl up in a cosy corner and read a design magazine or good book. Love to chill out by watching lifestyle channel on foxtel. Just watching people when having a coffee is a real treat as I don't get much time to just sit.

Where we started and why.
I started our business after seeing an original tram banner on eBay.
It was original with all the wear and tear and cost over a thousand dollars.
I thought to myself. I can do that. I designed the layout and sent it off to a printer who quickly suggested I should be printing 5 as a minimum and as sceptical as I was I said yes and I approached a retailer in my area who snapped up all 4 I had left.. The next week he wanted more and our business began...

We are now the only company screen printing by hand in Australia as most printers have gone digital. Although we do print some digital designs, you cannot go past the organic feel to a natural fabric that is printed on. The look and feel of fabric rather than the plastic feel of digital canvas have been our best selling feature and the one feature our customers love and come back for.

Our inks are solvent free and have in built UV protection and our canvas is raw and unsealed artist grade canvas.

I decided to start a small store on made it because we love to be involved with businesses that understand and share our passion for quality and hand made products.
I had purchased on 'Made it' several times before and was very happy with the products and service. I started a small store and have been very happy with the way it is set up and run. An easy customer experience every time.
