Hi.

Welcome to The Whimsical Wife. Thanks for popping in to share my adventures in the kitchen, in my home and my workshop as I Cook, Create & Decorate.

Queen Anne Side Table Makeover & Winner

I am excited to show you this piece that I have recently finished. I bought this cute Queen Anne side table at my local St Vinnies for $30. How good is that

I love the legs on the Queen Anne style of furniture and this table was no exception. The sweeping, elegant legs get me every time. The unfortunate thing with this table was it had a bit of a gouge out of the top of the table as you can see below.

I know some of you may cringe when you see me paint a perfectly nice wooden piece of furniture and I do understand but generally it does look better in the long run.... trust me. I used my new birthday present on this table - a Bosch orbital sander. Yes I asked for a sander for my birthday - how lame is that! Lol
It makes my life SOOOOO much easier now. It sands like a dream and doesn't vibrate my head off like some sanders do.

I sanded this table in something like 15 minutes compared to 30 minutes or more by hand. I will cherish this tool for future projects that's for sure.

It also helps me sand the table back once I have finished painting it to give it that "rustic" and "worn" look. A little whizz here, a little buzz there and VOILA you have a french provincial piece of furniture. The trick to making the table look worn is where you sand back. I choose area's where it would wear the most like on edges and corners.

I am really loving the french word image transfers that I have been doing lately (french clock table and my antique tea trolley) and this table was going to get the same treatment . You can read here on how to transfer an image to wood. I used a different "saying" on this table. I think it has something to do with chocolate.

Again I'm happy with the result of the finished product. Don't you think it looks SO much better than the original state? The words covered the gouge in the top of the table nicely so you can't see it at all.

What lovely legs it has - don't you reckon?

I got a bit carried away with styling and photographing the table - so I thought I would leave you with a few "nice" shots of the table all dressed up before I sold it.
