Pure Elegance - From Garage to Beauty Room

How gorgeous does this room look? Restful, inviting, relaxing? Would you believe this once was a bare concrete garage? I kid you not! This has got to be a pretty spectacular makeover done by my sister Jess and her husband Isaac. They created a pretty special space for my sister who is a Beauty Therapist, to open her own beauty rooms and work from home. Lets dive in a little deeper and see a few before and after photos.

As you can see from the pictures below the garage space and floor was pretty bare. The first step in creating the beauty rooms was to paint the floor to give it an inviting look and for practicality reasons giving the floor a easier surface to keep clean.

They used Rust-Oleums Epoxy Shield 2 1/2 Car Garage Floor Paint Kit which you can see in the picture below. We used this same paint to makeover our Garage which you can read about here. You can read about how the application and painting process in that same post. The same Tan colour was used on this floor but they opted not to use the paint chips that were included in the kit keeping it the simple Tan colour.

As you can see below after the floor has been painted is gives the space a much cleaner and professional look. Now it was time to get building. Professional bulidings constructed two rooms in the right hand side of this picture, creating a treatment room and a foyer/waiting area for clients.

As you can see in the picture below the newly constructed doorway leads into the foyer/waiting room and treatment areas. The walls do not finish at the roof but it has a gap at the top to allow for the garage door to open and close as the other side of the garage is still used to store the car.

The Epoxy Shield Floor Paint makes the entire area look clean and professional, no stains, dirt or grease marks. My sister opted for a simple colour pallete of white and with accents of pink. The walls were painted in Dulux Whisper White and a subtle striped wallpaper was used for a feature wall on the back wall of the treatment room.  It gives the room a feel of opulence and relaxation, perfect for a pampering room. The wallpaper is by Laura Ashley called Little Whispers and can be purchased at your local Masters Store. The room looks pretty inviting don't you think??

Let me introduce you to my sister Jess and let her talk about her new business Pure Elegance and her top tips on looking after your skin.

What inspired you to become a Beauty Therapist and open your own business?

I’ve always enjoyed making people feel good about themselves. I remember when I was 15 years old, going with my Mum to get her fortnightly eye brow wax (who at the time was suffering from Breast Cancer) and seeing how great she felt walking out of the salon with freshly waxed eye brows. Ever since then it’s been my dream to open up a salon and use my profession to help make each and every lady feel good about themselves.

What qualifications did you undertake to get where you are today?

I had to complete a Diploma in Beauty Therapy at Tafe and have worked in a number of beauty salons honing my skills as a therapist and learning from some of the best in the industry. I have also undertaken further courses such as microdermabrasion, ear piercing and a introduction Napoleon Perdis and Revlon to further expand my skills in these areas.
I’ve now have 7 years experience in the beauty industry and the services I provide through my business Pure Elegance is waxing, tinting, facials, massage, body treatments, manicures & pedicures.

Favourite thing about working as a Beauty Therapist?

I really enjoy doing facials and working with problem skin. It is satisfying to be able to help people with their skin concerns and seeing the results.

What product/s do you recommend? Why?

I would recommend Skin Juice Skin care, I’ve personally tried and tested it and have noticed great results with my skin. Skin Juice is 100% Australian owned and made out of raw and pure organic ingredients that are naturally metabolised to balance, repair and feed the skin at a deep cellular level. No product or ingredient should inhibit the natural flow of oil or excretory process: rather, they should seek to regulate natural oil production, in order to promote balance and strengthen the skins own natural defence system. Skin health is improved once the skin type is balanced. Oily skin glows without inflamed breakouts, dry skin hydrated and smooth while sensitive skin is strengthened without irritation. You can purchase Skin Juice Products through Jessica or trial the products through  the treatments that she offers.

Why is it important to look after your skin?

Our skin is the largest organ of our body, adults carry around 3.6 kilograms and 2 square meters of it. The skin protects us from microbes and the elements, helps regulate body temperature, and permits the sensations of touch, heat, and cold. Taking care of your skin is not only going to make a person appear younger, it’s also going to help with your overall health. Skin is something that cannot be replaced, which is why we need to ensure we are taking good care of it.

Top tips on looking after your skin?

  • Always check what’s in your skincare/makeup!! The average woman puts 500 different chemicals on her skin every day through the use of creams, lotions and cosmetics.

  • Use a cleanser, toner and moisturiser that suit’s YOUR skin type.  Many people come to me wondering why their skin is breaking out, a lot of the time they’re using products that are too harsh or heavy for their skin type.

  • Use an eye cream - The skin around the eyes is ten times thinner than the skin on the face. Unlike skin on the rest of your face, the eye area does not contain oil glands that can help keep this skin moist.

  • Exfoliate 1-2 times per week – This helps to remove dead skin cells, therefore helping your skin care products to absorb more easily.

  • Wear a sunscreen daily

  • Use a mineral based make-up that won’t clog skin

  • Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated.

  • Eat a well balanced diet rich in antioxidants such as vitamins A, B, C
