Here is another one of my bargain buys that I have recently renovated. I found this small side table in my local op shop haunt and for $10 I couldn't pass it by. You see I am a sucker for cheap furniture, much to my husbands dismay. We have a large storage area under our house and lets just say I take full advantage of that! Lets just say I won't be running out of projects anywhere in the near future.

I took this photo above when I did my Decorating With $2 series. You can read about my wire basket project here. The garish orange stain really wasn't my thing and it just didn't suit the theme of the living room. I really loved the legs on this table. They are dainty and cute and at this point the only redeeming quality for this poor table. So I went to work to make it look pretty.

I sanded it back to allow the paint to adhere to it properly. (*Note: I probably should of used undercoat but got lazy. Will on the next project) I was going to stain the top similar to the hall table & side table I recently did. I decided it probably would look too "matchy" so I opted to paint it the same "snow white" as the hall table and rough it up a bit.

After I finished painting it and letting it dry for a couple of days I attacked it with sandpaper and a bit of elbow grease to make it look worn. I applied a bit of Clear & Rugger brown - Fiddes & Sons Wax to age it and gave it a good rub down all over.

If you haven't got your hands on a pot of Fiddes & Sons Wax and you love to restore furniture.... your missing out! I would be lost without it now. I stumbled across it when I was reading Miss Mustard Seeds Blog and she recommended it to use in restoring furniture and to create the "aged" look that a lot of us are after.

I am still getting the hang of using the wax but I have used it on most of my recent projects such as the Hall Table & Side Table. It's not only good for creating the aged look but it also protects the piece you apply it too. I applied it to the tops of the two tables to help protect against bumps, scratches and general wear and tear.

The old wooden box above is another one of my favourite garage sale finds. I think I got this one for probably $1. It was already painted that gorgeous Robins Egg colour on the end and it fitted in perfectly in this corner of the room. I am using it for a magazine holder at the moment to keep all my favourite magazines safe (& tidy).
