I was perusing Madeit.com.au a few weeks ago looking for some new designers to feature here at The Whimsical Wife in this segment. I was looking for something unique to showcase, something I hadn't really seen before.
I then stumbled across a talented designer with the most gorgeous wooden products I had ever seen. They were not only cute but designed seriously well.
That designer was Kylie over at bySAGEdesign. Kylie's pieces keep both quality and practicality in mind as she aims to infuse art
into everyday things. bySAGEdesign gifts and home wares creates a natural
feel by using simple, stylish organic design. The best thing of all is all their products are designed and made in Australia and all the materials they use are purchased from Australian businesses.
So without further ado I would love to introduce Kylie and let her take it away.......
Hi there, my name is Kylie and I design and make unique home wares for my website www.bysagedesign.com
My business is based from my home studio on the coast of Southern Queensland.
I work very hard on my business but it rarely feels like work simply because I love what I do!
It certainly comes with its’ challenges. Working completely on your own leaves all problem solving to only you and that can at times feel like a lot of weight in a lone person’s shoulders. But weighing that up with the flexibility of time, the satisfaction of creating things that others connect with and the rewards you get from watching your business grow… I would not trade it for any other working lifestyle.

By Sage Design began online about 18 months ago but really I have been building towards it for a long time. I have a background in Graphic Design through the print industry and I studied a Bachelor of Visual Art later in life. I love business and I love creating. I enjoy art and music, running, outdoors, good health, sharing, and working on my business. I am lucky enough to have created myself a life where I can include all those things into almost everyday.
By Sage Design products have been created to decorate the home and they are mostly based around my digital illustrations. My current collection is made from laser cut ply and mdf woods. Products include decorative ornaments, jewellery displays, lights and Christmas decorations. My personal favorites and best sellers are the little night lights, two of which I am giving away here on The Whimsical Wife.
People, emotions, childhood, playfulness, innocence, nature, animals and the outdoors all inspire me. I love simplicity, illustration, and the perfection of imperfections. I build my illustrations in a collage type fashion building a story with symbols and shapes. My designs often feature children, animals, trees and birds and tend be a little nostalgic, pulling on people’s memory. Each design is a little bit of me so they are quite personal and I like to think of them as little pieces of artwork. I believe if I focus on keeping this element in my products then my designs will continue to resonate with people.
As my business continues to grow I hope to expand my range of products, applying my designs to things other than just laser cut wood. It is just a matter of finding the time! It is important to me to regularly come out with new designs so as to keep both myself and other people interested. I hope never to get bored with my business!
