My Autumn & Winter Mum Style Capsule Wardrobe

I wanted to share with you guys for the longest time what I love to wear during each season of the month but it seems I get bogged down in DIY and food posts that I keep forgetting to add it to the blog list to write about. I realise that I am not a fashion blogger by any means but I am a mum who struggles on a daily basis on what to wear. I have been following the idea of a capsule wardrobe loosely for a little over two years now. It has revolutionized the way I buy clothes plus I don't feel guilty spending a little more on a piece of clothing knowing it will get used A.LOT! If you don't know what a capsule wardrobe is then check out this post here explaining what the whole deal is.

This article has heaps of links at the bottom you can explore. Plus simply google "Capsule Wardrobe" and heaps of posts will come up with ideas for every season.  Since having Little Miss A my weight has been all over the place up and down and all around so I am hoping that things will even out and I can stick to the wardrobe I have currently bought. It's a pain when things start feeling a little snug or loose (which I wish would happen - ha). So here is a collection of some simple outfits I have been wearing this Autumn & Winter.  I will try and add a product list of all the pieces I have in my Autumn & Winter Capsule Wardrobe at the end of this post with links if they are current.

The first staple in my wardrobe for the Autumn months and warmer Winter days is this long sleeve striped dress from Kmart. I think I picked it up for something like $20 and it has been the perfect staple for my wardrobe. I am a sucker for stripes be it a shirt or a dress it just is something I am drawn too. This striped dress was the perfect addition to the wardrobe and I found I was able to utilise it in a few different looks. By adding heels and a cropped denim jacket it made this basic dress into something perfect for a smart casual event. I also loved dressing down this outfit with a pair of white sneakers and khaki jacket turning it into the perfect mumiform for school pickup.

This little red dress has brought me so much joy to wear. I can't believe I haven't bought a wrap dress before but I am hooked on them. They are so flattering on and cover the areas that I am most conscious about (hello mum-tum) and accentuate the good bits. If you know what I mean. Ha. I teamed them with a pair of black boots that I am also in love with. I picked these boots up along with the dress from Dotti. While they are a fairly high heel these boots don't give me super sore feet and I am able to wear them for a couple of hours without feeling like I need to rip them off my feet. Plus I feel like I can chase the kids in them without breaking an ankle. This outfit has to be one of my fave's for the season that is for sure. I have added tights and a long cardigan or thick jacket when the weather got really cold and it's perfect.

My next favourite piece of clothing that all mums know they must have in their closet is a jolly good pair of jeans. I mean a really good pair of jeans can make your break your day especially when you are running after kids all day. This pair I picked up from Jeans West just after Easter this year and they are been my most favourite pair of jeans to date. I wear them nearly every second day. They are the Krista Skinny Jean and unfortunately, they are no longer available from what I can see on the online store. I hope they bring them back as they really are the best pair of jeans. They fit so well and sucked in the bits that needed a little extra support (hello mum-tum again) and accentuated the good bits (hello derriere). Plus I really loved the wash of these jeans and the small details of distressing.

Another staple I love to have in my cupboard is a button up shirt dress. This one I found in my local Valley Girl and the plum colour was something a little bit different than a denim look or black version that is normally around. I intend to wear it with tights and boots or flats on colder days and mix it with a nice thick knit to add another layer of warmth. Button up shirt dresses is one of my fave pieces to have in my capsule wardrobe because when I am having a fat day I can still feel good, The floaty and slightly oversized structure of the dress skims the body all in the right places and hides the bits you don't want to show.

My next winter staple is a sexy black faux leather skirt. I recently added this skirt to my wardrobe in hopes of wearing it on date night. I will admit I am still waiting to wear it. Ha. I feel like date night is near impossible to organise these days with three little ratbags around. However, I loved how it can be dressed up and down in varying ways by changing footwear and tops.  I will probably pull it out to wear to church more often on weekend than date night but I adore this skirt.

I will admit this skirt was an investment on my part. It was more than I would normally spend on a piece of clothing but I feel it's a great staple to have in my wardrobe and I was happy to spend a little more on something that will be a pillar so to speak in my wardrobe and will be able to worn in the coming years. The fit and make of the skirt was gorgeous and I will admit I did buy a cheaper version of a faux leather skirt and it has no comparison on this one. I have learnt time and time again that sometimes spending a little bit more on a article of clothing is worth it in the long run especially when it comes to fit, sizing, make and cut of the piece.

While I mentioned a damn good pair of jeans is necessary for a capsule wardrobe I would say a good pair of black jeans is also a must. My most recent purchase is these Danii Minogue petite black skinny jeans from Target which are the perfect length for this shorty.  Most pants I have to take up because I am not tall enough or if I am lazy I generally just roll them under but the finish doesn't look as good. They are a high rise fit which is something new to me as I generally go for a midrise but feel the highrise was a pleasant surprise.

Last but not least it's every mum's staple..... active wear. I have a bit of an active wear obsession and find I have to pull the reins in when I go shopping so I don't have an oversupply of it. Mind you can you ever have too many pairs of tights? I love them because they are so comfortable and yes I do actually do exercise in them and not just wear them to the shops. I tend to buy most of my activewear from Cotton On as I love the quality of them and not to mention the price tag. I am really into the tights with cut out pieces with lace or mesh covering them. I tend to lean towards the 7/8th length tight for winter and a 3/4 length for summer.
