How To Make A Bauble Christmas Tree Board

I've got another quick and simple Christmas Tree idea for you today. Yes, I've blogged twice in a week and you'll be surprised that you will probably see me blog maybe a few more times this week as I have another two more Christmas Tree inspired projects to share. I wanted them to get out early in the month for those who have yet to put their tree up because they're uninspired or just don't have the room to fit a proper tree in their house. 

My Bauble Christmas Tree Board project is front and centre today and I am glad to be able to finally share this one with you. Honestly, it is so easy to make and the kids will have a blast helping you out (or making a lot of mess) with this one. The hardest part of this project is the painting and sanding of the backing board that the baubles are stuck onto. If you have a blackboard or a nice piece of timber sitting around that would fit the bill instead of painting something then use that instead. 

My kid's eyes lit up when I had finished this Bauble Christmas Tree Board because it was early November when I started creating these projects and they thought Christmas was around the corner. I had to break the bad news that it still was a few weeks until Christmas. That being said they've enjoyed all the different Christmas projects that I've had going on around the house and rejoiced in all the baubles I've been pulling out for different projects. I don't think there is anything as magical as Christmas time for a child. 

Alright, let's jump into how I created this Bauble Christmas Tree Board so that you can make one for yourself and light up your kid's eyes in delight.

Materials:

• Plywood board – cut to 55cm x 70cm
• Sample pot: British Paint – Sleek Blue
• Sample pot: Dulux – Casper White
• Foam roller
• 120 grit sandpaper
• Blue tac or double-sided tape.
• 15 x Christmas baubles
• 1 x small star decoration
  

Step 1: Lay the plyboard board in a covered area ready for painting. Apply two coats of the British Paint – Sleek blue using the foam roller. Let this dry for at least an hour before proceeding to apply two coats of the Dulux – Casper white over the top of the blue.  Let it dry overnight. Blue and white not your thing? Don't be afraid to play around with the colours to suit your baubles.

Step 2: Using 120 grit sandpaper on an orbital sander and lightly sand the entire board until the blue starts to show through. Continue sanding until you are happy with the amount of blue showing through and the whole board starts looking appropriately rustic. Wipe the board over with a damp cloth to remove any excess dust. Note you can do this bit by hand if you don't own an orbital sander. It will just take a little longer. 

Step 3: Place the finished board on top of a credenza or hall table ready for display. Using a small amount of blue tac or double sided tape attach it to the back of the first Christmas bauble. Leaving a space at the top of the board for the star attach the first bauble to the board. 

Step 4: Repeat the same process attaching a small amount of tape or blue tac to another two baubles and stick them evenly under the first bauble. Repeat the process until you have formed a triangular shape to mimic a Christmas tree. 

Step 5: Finish the board off by sticking on the star decoration to the top of the tree. Add further decorations around the board to complement the Bauble Christmas Tree. 

There you have it my Bauble Christmas Tree Board project in a few simple steps. This project would be a great one to take on holidays with you if you are going away over the Christmas period. The board and baubles would be easy to slide under a seat in the car or in the boot  - you know with all that spare room you'll have in the back. *Rolls eyes*. Don't get me started on room in the boot when we go away on holidays. Gah. So full. Ha. We are going away for a week over Christmas and I know for a fact we will have to hook up the trailer to bring everything we need for a week away in a house. We are bringing four bikes so I guess that isn't so bad.
